The GO Clothed Company, is a Spanish registered fashion and accessories brand born in 2018. A brand committed to innovation with style, seeking through the fusion between tradition and avant-garde to create different and modern products.
”At GO Clothed, we create our products in an artisan way, combining new technologies (laser cutting and 3D printing) with traditional techniques.” – Macarena GO, designer of GO Clothed Company
For GO Clothed fashion and its accessories are tools with which to show the personality of each one without barriers. The designer believes in the perfection of the imperfect, in the complement of the incomplete and in the respect for the different.
”Quality and love for the good work of things are the basis of our work, and participate in the development towards a better world our guide.” – Macarena GO, designer of GO Clothed Company
This project is an exit from the path established in the life of its creators, which a turn of destiny forced them to take. GO Clothed was born after experiencing in first person the fragility of life and the speed of time.
GO Clothed is the project of the designer Macarena Gutiérrez Ortega and her partner, and sister, Marina.
INTERVIEW WITH MACARENA GO, designer of GO Clothed Company
TPM: Does your brand position itself as a SUSTAINABLE brand?
Yes, we do. All our hats are designed and produced by me in my studio in Madrid. We don’t have stock, that is why we sell under order, we just produce what is sold, saving materials, energy, money and time. And of course, all our suppliers and the materials we work with have all the guaranties.
TPM: How the brand was born and how many people are involved in the team now?
GO Clothed is the result of how staying strong when bad situations arrive, can make you do things you thought you couldn’t. My father was terribly hit by a car my last year of college, 2015, and during the time I was finishing college and my master on Fashion Design, my father was trying to recover at a neurological rehabilitation clinic. When I was starting my internship in 2017, they sent my father home and that changed all the plans. After thinking all the options, I decided to take care of my father and start my own project, to which I convinced my sister, Marina, to join promising her that she will completely take care of the brand’s communication after finishing college, that she will do it on 2020. So, at this moment, I totally take care of all the creative part of the brand (collections, shootings, website, social media…) and Marina helps me with strategy and communication.
TPM: What do you think is the biggest challenge for GO Clothed right now?
We are a young brand that with a year and a half of life we’ve showed in two of the most important fashion cities of the world, New York FW and Paris FW. We’ve represented Spain in Honduras FW, and we have our own space in one of the most important showrooms in New York City, Flying Solo NY. We can say that we have done things we couldn’t imagine could happen so early, and this means we have potential, but still a lot of work to do. We have to get more solid in the market and have a stronger strategy in media. We are a young brand and so we have a lot of challenges left!
TPM: How do you want to achieve the long-lasting concept for your brand?
With the quality of our products and designs, keeping strong the values we work for and a good strategy.
TPM: How do you determine what is durable design?
I think a durable design is a design that resists the pass of time physically and emotionally. When you have something that you can and want to wear, no matter the trend or the moment, you have a durable design. And that is what I like about hats.
TPM: What happens to that part of a production that does not get sold?
We don’t work with stock, so the only thing we have left after every collection are the samples, that if after the “sample sale” aren’t sold we save the ones we like the most as part of the archive of the brand and reuse the left ones.
TPM: How far do you go in terms of sustainability?
I went to Honduras with six suitcases, seven if we count my hand luggage, instead of sending my hats in cardboard boxes on a different airplane.
TPM: Where could you serve as a role model for others?
I don’t know if I can be a role model, but I would like to say to anyone that is in a difficult situation and is reading this, that no matter how dark the tunnel is or how far you see the light at the end of it, you can always create your own light.
