Taylor Swift Canceled Melbourne Cup Concert after Criticism From Animal Rights Activists

Taylor Swift, 29, was set to perform two songs from her critically-acclaimed new album, Lover, ahead of the famous $8 million race. The Melbourne Cup, Australia’s most famous annual Thoroughbred Horse race is just one of the many horse racing venues in question recently due to horses as many as thirty horses dying at the Santa Anita Racetrack in California.

Animal rights group Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses, took to Twitter asking her to cancel her performance with its #NupToTheCup hashtag once it was announced that she would be performing. In addition to the thirty plus horses that have died in Santa Anita California, six horses have died while racing in the Melbourne Cup, including an Irish racehorse that was euthanized on the racetrack last year after breaking its shoulder.
