Naeem Khan’s Spring/Summer 2019 A Journey in Time Womenswear collection was motivated, to varying degrees, by a combination of influencers. Those influencers include Kahn’s first impressions of the 70s & 80s in New York City, where he landed after leaving his native India. In addition his apprenticeship with Halston, his experiences of the Studio 54 era, the Truman Capote’s Black and White Ball, and absolutely Andy Warhol, amongst others. The resulting development – glamour for the next generation.
A Journey in Time was further enhanced with bespoke footwear from Alexandre Birman – Claritas, a custom-crafted block heel, and Pool Sandals.
The pièce de résistance for Naeem’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection was a collaboration with Chopard. La Maison Chopard, which has its roots dating back to 1860, was the optimal choice for high-end jewelry to complete the runway show.
Key elements for any runway show involve the magic worked backstage. Khan chose iconic stylist Odile Gilbert for one of her signature, made for the moment sexy, sleek, high fashion hairstyles. Gilbert’s history with the fashion industry and particularly fashion photography dates to the early 1980s starting with collaborations that included Irving Penn and Richard Avedon. There is no substitute for experience and Gilbert delivered.
Next up, Rubén Zamora, aka Gato, Maquillador Oficial de Maybelline España, joined forces with Khan to compliment Gilbert’s vision with his own genius for make-up artistry including signature eyebrows.
