Since ancient times, crystals have been used for their purported energetic healing properties. Among their benefits, crystals are said to offer happiness, mental clarity, and emotional healing – in fact, different types of crystals have different properties. But if you’re new to the game, where do you start? Samantha Sargent, founder of beautiful brand to trust, Be Genki, tells us how crystals are incorporated into the brand, and why they could be an ideal addition to your beauty regime.

It’s not possible to be happy, healthy and harmonious all the time; for every up there’s a down, a yin to a yang. You can’t have one without the other. So whilst we wish we were happy, healthy and full of harmony all the time, we aren’t. We bruise, we scar, we grow; we laugh and we cry. We survive and we thrive – and that’s okay. We don’t need to be perfect; we just need to be ourselves.

As humans we tend to overthink and analyse things, so that we can be sure that we’re ‘getting it right’. What I love about crystals is that there is so much that we don’t know. Crystals have been used for thousands of years, with records showing their existence in the lives of the Ancient Sumerians, Greeks, Egyptians, and Chinese. What a beautiful thing it is, to embrace and return to what our ancestors knew, respected and gained benefit from.

Here are a few crystals you may already have heard about:
Amethyst – helps bring about harmony to your nervous system, relax your mind, calm you body and send you in to a peaceful dream state.
Angelite – Has a peaceful, calming energy, working to promote compassion and understanding.
Rose Quartz – Is renowned as being the crystal of love. It’s said to work side by side with your heart chakra, promoting self-love, unconditional love, and emotional healing.
Citrine – Is known as the stone of abundance, supporting the transformation of dreams and wishes into tangible form, as well as encouraging generosity and the sharing of this good fortune.
Clear Quartz – Helps to promote clear perception, understanding and self-awareness.

At Be Genki, our primary target is to provide pure, premium, and purposefully simple products that support your emotional wellbeing, so that you can go about your day with more ease and less stress. In 2016 we made the decision to create a Be Genki production room at our home in the Byron Bay hinterland. Our house is the perfect setting nestled amongst native Australian flora and fauna, adorned with giant crystals in each room.

I take the role of blending, pouring and infusing love into each bottle, with a great deal of respect, as I’m very much a proponent for the importance of energy and how it can be transferred to all things we come in contact with.

After sourcing our ingredients mindfully from reputable and ethical suppliers who are independently certified organic by the ACO (Australian Certified Organic) and OFC (Organic Food Chain), these pure and high-vibration oils are poured in to the ‘mother’ dark amber glass bottle. The ‘mother’ bottle is delicately placed within an amethyst cave to rest and re-energise for five days; amethyst caves are renowned for their cleansing, purifying and healing properties.

Once the ‘mother’ bottle completes it’s five-day retreat in the amethyst cave, it is placed on a shelf in the lab, beautifully balanced with clear quartz and rose quartz crystal balls. I particularly love rose quartz as the crystal of choice for this step, as it carries a soft energy of love, compassion and peace, tenderness and healing, nourishment and comfort. It is these qualities that I believe Be Genki brings to the holistic being of whoever chooses to anoint their body or home with one of our oils, mists or candles. The clear quartz acts as a filter against any negativity, and also to amplify the rose quartz’s intent.

When the time comes to fill and label Be Genki products, I begin the ritual by taking a moment of quiet contemplation and meditation in front of our giant illuminated citrine crystal to clear my thoughts of any ‘monkey chatter’ so as to infuse love and peace within each bottle. We chose citrine for this step, as it is renowned for helping to draw out stress and negativity from the body to bring in a quiet refreshing sense of peace – something we all need in this day and age.
