Review – United & Free shampoo & conditioner

Feel like you’ve been trying to grow out your thin hair out forever? Is your bathroom sink getting too much hair action these days? Trust me, I know the feeling. Our poor, delicate hair can’t take too much stress and we all daydream of thick, heavy and voluptuous hair. So what’s a guy or gal gotta do? You work with what your momma gave you, duh!

My hair has been through it all. From wearing extensions every day to trying thickeners and other toxic products that promised to “repair and fix” split ends. As an ex-hairstylist, I am sorry to say that once those tiny little ends are split — there is really no sealing them back up. End of story.

For those of us with thin hair, it’s especially important to be super careful with the heat, extremely gentle with our brush, and invest in the right high-quality nutritional supplements. We’ve learned to compromise vibrant blonde color for luscious long locks. Sadly, we cannot have both. Detangling our hair after a wash can be a chore. And we know that we should let the conditioner sit, but not for TOO long. Otherwise, we’ll be sporting the not-so-in 80’s slicked-back look the following day. Can you relate?

Now that I work in the holistic wellness industry, I have become careful as to what I put in and around my body. There’s so much conflicting information out there about what products we should use on our bodies, so it’s a good idea to find companies that are local to you that genuinely care about the ingredients they use.

United & Free was created by a brother and sister duo in Vancouver. The products are cruelty-free and work amazing on my thin hair. United & Free doesn’t use “dyes, synthetic fragrance, parabens, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) or harsh chemicals”. YAY! The shampoo and conditioner are to praise for the best my hair has ever felt… and smelled! They don’t strip your hair of its nutrients, yet, they get it good and clean – unlike some super earthy, natural hair products. It’s the perfect combination.

The shampoo is great because it’s low-foaming and pH balanced. It’s scented with essential oils like peppermint, rosemary, black spruce and bergamot. These oils benefit the scalp and encourage hair growth. My hair feels strong and the conditioner leaves it with an awesome shine. It’s now SO easy to run a brush through after a shower. Best of all? It’s 100% vegan, gluten-free and sustainable.

Finding an authentic company can be tricky sometimes. My Advice? Support your local companies that have a strong message to help people live healthier and happier lives. United & Free’s message shines through when they state, “We want to keep you educated about the benefits of choosing plant-based skin care products that work in harmony with your skin’s natural chemistry.” That’s a statement I can trust.
