Judith Poe, the charismatic mastermind behind her namesake jewelry line, believes in organic materials– and organic beginnings.
After taking a jewelry class in her hometown of Austin, she began redesigning her own jewelry and posting her work on social media. Soon friends were sending in custom orders, and the Judith Poe line began. Poe ended up leaving her finance job and moving to San Francisco to pursue her jewelry career full-time.
The origin of her jewelry line perfectly sums up Poe herself– an altruistic sense of adventure. All of her eye-catching pieces use naturally occurring stones that are hand-picked by Poe from around the world.
Poe’s driving force is her passion for helping others, and creates jewelry for the feeling it brings to her customers. “The perfect piece of jewelry has the ability to instantly make us feel special and empowered,” Poe said.
Her vast line includes everything from statement rings with eye catching stones to chokers and simple delicate drusy layering necklaces. Her signature piece is the unique deerskin leather wrap bracelets, and Poe even offers an Airbnb experience to make a DIY wrap bracelet. For just $45, people can build their own wrap with Poe in her private Portrero Hill studio, designing it as they like.
The Airbnb addition has a personal twinge for Poe. “So much of my life, I was told I couldn’t do something because others may have thought their interests for me were better than my own,” Poe said. “To see people walk into my studio, after signing up for my workshop, thinking the exact same thoughts ‘I’m not creative, oh I’ve never made jewelry before, etc.’ and then, to see them leave with a beautiful piece of jewelry they designed and handmade – that is the most empowering experience.”
Poe’s own experimentation of her styles results in new, fresh looks. This maintains the truest form of automatic art. As Poe quotes on her Instagram page, “art is how we decorate space; music is how we decorate time – jewelry is how we decorate our bodies.”
Poe has also partnered with West Elm and Bay Area wineries to showcase her minimalist styled pieces.
Her line is rooted in the connection of jewelry and the personal intimacy it brings. “A woman can feel beautifully empowered when adorned with the right piece of jewelry. And that is my ultimate goal- to make women feel beautiful in their own bodies,” Poe said.
She offers custom pieces and wholesale opportunities.
“In a world that is always telling us how to be – to have the ability to choose a personal piece that speaks to you makes jewelry more than just fashion,” Poe said.
Today, her pieces are being carried in select boutiques across the U.S. Many of her pieces are one-of-a-kind and handmade with utmost care to detail. All Judith Poe jewelry is handmade in San Francisco.
“I absolutely love what I do,” Poe said.
And that is the most powerful adornment anyone can wear.
