We Live In An Era Of Failure

While I was reading a popular international magazine the other day, I stumbled across a couple of pages in which a lazy, self-centered lifestyle was being promoted. “It is OK to miss that 8 a.m meeting because you have watched Game of Thrones until 3 a.m last night. It is also OK to skip over your bff’s birthday party in order to go to that date with the hot guy from uni, she’ll definitely understand. And there is nothing wrong in playing Candy Crush on a 3 hours train ride – reading or just sightseeing are too mainstream.”

We must take only the good and useful information out of everything

Don’t get me wrong, we should all be well aware that such articles are sometimes created just as a form of entertainment and we must take only the good and useful information out of everything. But, unfortunately, this is the attitude promoted by most magazines, websites and social media nowadays. And most of the consumers are amused by this mentality and tend to take it seriously, because, why not? It is the easy way out, the less mentally engaging and the most pleasurable in that exact moment. It requires less work, less effort and sometimes it doesn’t even seem like you are doing something wrong or missing out on a life changing opportunity.

how does the internet affect our brains

Try to think about the seemingly innocent examples that I have stated at the beginning of this article, while trying to balance out the advantages and disadvantages of each part – and, for all the millennials out there, allow me to assume that you have experienced at least one of these choices in the last few months.

Everybody loves a good TV series, it is a relaxing and fun way to spend your time and even learn some things, but, on the other hand, it can become a perfect way of wasting your time. Because there is nothing easier than to press play and forget about the world for 43 minutes, when you could have used that time in a more productive way, even if that means just lying in bed and contemplating your current situation, your expectations and desires and your plan to conquer the world, instead of postponing life. And I don’t even intend to talk about the situation in which being addicted to watching TV series or movies is starting to have a negative impact on your lifestyle, because that type of discussion is absolutely futile, having obvious conclusions.

What matters more than what you choose to do is the reason for which you have made that choice, what you have to give up on and the consequences of your actions.

As for the choice between your best friend and a guy/girl… do I even need to explain? There is a reason for which your best friend has become your best friend, and I believe that this type of relationship between two people is really worth keeping at any cost, and every person should cherish their friends, keep them close and be by their side in any situation, because that’s what friends are for, right?

What is social media teaching our children

Similar to the case of watching TV series, playing games on your phone could – actually, will definitely – lead to lack of productivity, the difference between the two being that you could actually learn a few things from TV series and movies sometimes, but Candy Crush has never helped anybody in any way, has it? Therefore, we can label it – and many other games – as being the definition of completely wasting time.

Do not allow social media and faulty mentalities, as popular as they may seem, fool you into postponing your success!

To sum up, what matters more than what you choose to do is the reason for which you have made that choice, what you have to give up on and the consequences of your actions. The main idea that everybody should always keep in mind, especially when committed to any type of choice, is that your time is limited, you only have one life and you should make the most of it while you still can. Do not allow social media and faulty mentalities, as popular as they may seem, fool you into postponing your success. You must not ever settle for less than you can get or opt for the easy way, because the results will match.
