INTERVIEW: Qiuyi Luo About ARC LUO STUDIO

Inspired by Dadaism + mathematics + much more, ARC LUO uses fashion to explore philosophy + creative concepts. The label’s most recent collection, “In-arti-culate”, focuses on the perception of art and how it shifts from person to person. These themes are not hidden; throughout much of the collection, imagery of toilets makes a prominent appearance — a bold move that shows the brand’s willingness to explore topics not often covered in the fashion world.

When did you first realize you wanted to become a fashion designer?

I was very happy when I put on the clothes that I designed.

If you could go back and tell yourself one thing before beginning your career what would it be? 

Sometimes misfortune is a blessing in disguise.

What was the biggest rookie mistake you made when just starting out?

Missing the opportunity to cooperate with others who I thought not good enough.

What is one thing you look at for the models for your campaigns?

Energy.

What role do you think social media plays in fashion today?

More opportunities to be seen by others.  

The constant repetition of information makes the design more similar.

What is your favorite and NON-favorite part about being part of the fashion industry?

I make the design that I like and get other’s recognition.

Waste of resources and no pay for interns.

How do you want people to feel when wearing your clothes?

They would like to wear every day.

Can you tell us how your brand ARC LUO makes a difference in the fashion industry?

I don’t want to deliberately make a distinctive brand. I hope that at certain moments I can make choices that don’t follow the trend.

What do you think is the biggest challenge for a fashion designer?

Find my own style and then make a breakthrough.

Is there one important person, in your life, who pushes and motivates you to believe in yourself?

Myself.

How do you think a big brand should motivate their collaborators and team members?

The beautiful design, abundant money and positive reputation. 

How do you think sustainable fashion can play an important role in the fashion industry?

Fashion is not necessity, clothes are.

The key of Environmental protection is about the thoughts of consumers, while, the concept of environmental protection itself is conflicted with the promotion of consumption.

The essence of the sustainability is to lower people’s desire to buy. There are many options for manufacturers to change, the application of the environment-friendly material, the energy saving of production and the adjustment of design version (for instance, zerowaste). They have to change, as the consumers change. What really need to adjust is what and how to advertise. 

As a designer, I hope that my work is either a work of art, expressing a certain idea, or a classic item that can be kept in the closet for a long time.

Describe us you as a designer and how your feelings influence the creativity process?

I would like to try various style. Establish new one and then make a breakthrough. A certain design standard is merely a way to enhance people’s memory and promote marketing. 

More opportunities may go away if you are too serious. The efficiency is high when you are relax. 

Would you like to involve other accessories designers in your future projects with ARC LUO?

Sure, I would like that very much. There will be sparkles.

What do you think is the main mission of the CO-BRANDING concept ?

Expand the customers with same taste.
