The Berkeley to launch royal wedding PRET-A-PORTEA masterclasses to bring a regal touch to their collection in celebration of the royal wedding this May
To celebrate the upcoming Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on 19th May 2018, for the month of May The Berkeley is celebrating by giving guests the chance to create their very own Royal Wedding Pret-a-portea with masterclasses recreating a few fashion favorites as bridal biscuits and cakes. A limited edition of wedding-inspired creations will also be added to the SS18 Pret-a-portea Collection in the lead up to the big day.
Exclusively for the month of May, Head Pastry Chef at The Berkeley, Mourad Khiat, and his team will welcome guests behind the scenes into their bakery to offer a one of a kind Royal Wedding Pret-a-Portea Masterclass. Available every Wednesday and Saturday from 2 – 4 pm, guests will join the team behind London’s favorite fashion afternoon tea to learn how to create their very own Royal Wedding Collection Pret-a-Portea. The majestic masterclass will include a variety of regal touches such as a wedding dress biscuit, taking inspiration from a few favorites like Ralph & Russo, Phillipa Lepley and Suzanne Neville amongst others; and a stiletto shoe cookie inspired by bridal creations by much loved Manolo Blahnik, Jimmy Choo, and Nicholas Kirkwood. The Royal Wedding Pret-a-Portea Masterclass will give guests the chance to learn how to create the perfect additions to any royal themed tea party being hosted in the run-up to the wedding or on the big day itself. Following the masterclass, guests will be able to enjoy Pret-a-Portea in the Collins Room where a few regal bridal designs will take to the cake stand as a limited edition within the SS18 Collection, bringing a touch of stately sparkle to Pret-a-portea for the month of May.
On creating these royal additions, Khiat says, ‘2018 is an exciting year in London and across Britain, as we celebrate this very special Royal Wedding and we wanted to pay tribute to this modern day fairy-tale by creating a Pret-a-Portea with a contemporary regal flare especially for the occasion!’
Prêt-à-Portea is served at The Berkeley from 1pm-5.30pm every day priced at £52 per person or £62 including a glass of Laurent Perrier champagne, or £70 per person including a glass of couture champagne. Brown’s Hotel and The Balmoral present a Grand Royal Experience with Simon Rhodes, Her Majesty The Queen’s cousin
Rocco Forte Hotels’ British properties have partnered with Simon Rhodes, second cousin to HM The Queen and son of the late The Honourable Mrs. Margaret Rhodes, First cousin to Her Majesty and former Lady in Waiting to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, to launch the ultimate Royal Experience. Over the course of six days, Brown’s Hotel in the heart of Mayfair and The Balmoral, Edinburgh’s iconic landmark hotel will offer guests exclusive access to the principal occupied palaces and private estates in England and Scotland. With privileged and private access to properties ordinarily closed to the public guided by extraordinary curators from the Royal Collection Trust, this tour is set to deliver unique insight into the rich cultural heritage of Britain and its Royal Family.
Highlights of the experience include exploring St James’ Palace, Buckingham Palace, The Palace of Holyroodhouse, Windsor Castle, Glamis Castle, Sandringham and the Royal stud, Chartwell and Archers’ Hall.
Arriving at Brown’s, London’s First Hotel and the guests’ London home for the first four nights of the tour, they will be welcomed with a private dinner hosted by Simon Rhodes as well as Royal Correspondent and Royal Herald Alastair Bruce. A perfect start to the tour, guests will be offered a fascinating introduction to the history and traditions of the Royal Family in anticipation of the next six days of exploring it firsthand.
The experience begins with a behind-the-scenes tour of St James’ Palace before a private lunch at Royal Warrant holders, Her Majesty’s vintners, Berry Bros & Rudd. Then, upon entering Buckingham Palace via the Ambassadors’ Entrance, guests will be met by the Assistant Surveyor of the Queen’s Paintings and experience a guided tour of nineteen staterooms, the Throne Room, the Music Room and the White Drawing Room. Rare access to the Royal Collection of paintings by Van Dyck, Canaletto, Canova and Sèvres porcelain will be granted and the first day will conclude with champagne in the Marble Hall.
On the second day, guests will depart London and arrive by private helicopter at Sandringham, The Queen’s beloved country retreat and home to the Royal Stud which guests will be shown by the stud manager. Here guests are invited for lunch in York Cottage Dining Room, never usually open to the public, this intimate rustic idyll is where Her Majesty typically hosts the family for shoot lunches and barbecues invariably cooked by Prince Phillip.
A trip to Chartwell, a former private residence of Sir Winston Churchill for over forty years of his life, will offer the opportunity to explore the home of Britain’s most iconic Prime Minister and the complex but fascinating subject of Oscar-nominated Darkest Hour. Hosted by Winston Churchill’s great-grandson, Randolph Churchill, guests will be treated to a private view of his renowned paintings, recently featured at great extent by The Crown series before enjoying lunch with them on the estate.
On their final day in England, guests will visit Windsor Castle, just two weeks after it plays host to this year’s Royal Wedding of Prince Harry to Megan Markle. It is here that Martin Clayton, Head of Prints & Drawings at The Royal Collection, will offer an exclusive tour of The Print Room which has housed the greater part of the Royal Collection’s drawings, watercolors, and prints since the 1850s. This is a completely unique event, never opened to the public, the Print Room houses extraordinarily rare Old Master drawings including six hundred and fifty by Leonardo da Vinci.
The next morning, having arrived by train to The Balmoral hotel in Edinburgh, guests will be chauffeured to The Palace of Holyroodhouse for a private tour of the official residence of the British monarch in Scotland. It is this palace which just weeks later will host the Queen’s official engagements and ceremonies which take place each year at the beginning of summer during what is known to Scots as Royal Week. In the evening a private dinner is hosted in the splendor of The Balmoral hotel by Michelin-starred Number One Restaurant.
The week draws to a close with a final day at Glamis Castle, the childhood home of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and birthplace of Princess Margaret. After a leisurely drive through majestic countryside guests will be guided around the breathtaking castle by its owner, the 19th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne, who will entertain guests over lunch with anecdotes from his childhood growing up as the heir to one of Great Britain’s oldest aristocratic families in a home which was Shakespeare’s inspiration for Macbeth and is steeped in Royal history.
A befitting end, this Grand Royal Experience culminates in a private ceremonial dinner at Archers’ Hall with The Royal Company of Archers, the Sovereign’s Body Guard in Scotland. Over its 350 years, this company has been and continues to be made up of Earls, Dukes, Barons, Lords, and Marquesses of some of Britain’s finest aristocratic estates including Simon Rhodes himself, host of this most extraordinary tour.
Due to the exclusivity of the accesses provided and the availability of the various notable hosts, this experience will only take place on Friday 31st May and Thursday 7th June. Places are available for up to six guests and it can be booked by individuals or as a private experience. Prices start from £40,000 per person.
