Matte Projects, the team behind the annual Full Moon Festival at Governor’s Island, is hosting a Brooklyn-based pop up music and visual arts event on March 31. The exclusive event will be at an undisclosed location to highlight contemporary music and underground art culture.
Matte BLACK hopes to “incite, alter, and disrupt” and present attendees with “a world of the imagined and unimagined,” as the invite states. The Matte BLACK event has continuous brought up-and-coming artists to the main stage, with previous participating musicians like indie-pop group Little Dragon and techno duo Klangkarussell. Even newly-appointed Louis Vuitton men’s artistic director Virgil Abloh exhibited at Matte BLACK.
This year’s impressive lineup features both music and visual artists. The music section will be divided into two separate rooms, with the main space featuring Resident Advisor’s #1 DJ worldwide Dixon, South African singer Culoe de Song, Berlin-based Barnt, and Dig Deeper frontman Masha. The second chamber room will host DJ Hell, a live performance by Gaika, DJ sets from both Veronica Vasicka and Jubilee, as well as an experimental performance by Frank Ocean producer NOLIFE.
