“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” Psalm 19:1
Finding beauty in this world is as easy as looking up towards the heavens. The beauty of what lies above us had inspired the creative director Aries Sin for MODEMENT’s AW 2018 collection. The collection was precisely based on the expansive colour gradients in the skies during sunset and dawn.
This divine has been an inspiration for designers and artists for centuries. Sin, however, interprets the spiritual shift between night to day, and day to night differently from her predecessors. For her, that blurred line during the transition is where both ends of life meet to create something beautiful, constant, liberating, non-binary and androgynous – the signature aesthetic to the MODEMENT label.
Challenging herself, Sin decided to create her own fabrications for this collection. Highlights include the psychedelic, knit-wool coat that moves like coloured sand in an hourglass. Sin knitted together the wool fabric to mimic the colours of
the sunset in Hong Kong with deep, subtropical oranges and green. And to capture the sunrise in Europe, Sin took a hand-woven tulle fabric to construct a cascading, 3D coat that captures the softness, textures, colours and elegance of the Parisian sky. And as a nod to sustainability, she took different cast-off trimmings to create a patterned, variegated skirt as a portrait of Hong Kong’s sunset.
Cohesion and focus to the collection is punctuated by tailored knits that allow uidity and structure, resilience and grace, solid colours and vibrant colours that are appropriate for people, who identify themselves anywhere on the gender spectrum.
Life reaches it’s pinnacle frequency when there is tension followed by a resolution. That’s what MODEMENT offers, a eeting and precious moment.
