Retracing the history of denim back to its utilitarian roots as a functional workwear garment, the G-Star RAW FW18 collection reinterprets those origins in a range of new jeans-styles for both men and women.
G-Star RAW has taken inspiration for this season’s collection from classic denim workwear blueprints such as western garments, vintage racing suits, and delivery-service uniforms. Each new piece within the collection has been developed by clashing those traditional blueprints with bold color executions and new premium fabrics.
Sustainable innovation continues to be an important part of G-star’s design approach. Together with a range of skirts, jackets, overshirts, and chinos, the hero jeans in this season’s collection, the 3D-constructed G-Star Elwood jean and its workwear counterpart the Faroes jeans, have been developed in a new colored denim fabric. This fabric combines sustainable fibers with eco-friendly dyes from Archroma®, resulting in 54% less water, 65% less energy, 69% less CO2 and 48% fewer chemicals used compared to the standard dyeing process.
Those sustainably-developed garments, together with additionally pieces curated from the collection, carry the name “Uniform of the Free”, a homage to denim’s beginning as a workwear uniform and its history as the garment of choice for the game-changers, rebels, and free-spirited individuals of the past, present, and future.
The G-Star RAW FW18 collection is in stores globally September 2018.
