Upper West Side native Samuel Murkofsky designs for the tongue-in-cheek New Yorker. ManhattanKnights, Murkofsky’s brand, acts as a fashion ode to the city’s streetwear.
After graduating Hunter College with a degree in Theatre Arts, Murkofsky began customizing t-shirts and unique vintage garments for friends and family. By 2015, men and womenswear ManhattanKnights was born.
The FW18 NYFW collection featured updated takes on loungewear, particularly the sweatshirt. Male models sported black pullovers with plastic cutouts baring the naked chest, while other outfits were splashed with the slogan “Just, Don’t,” a play on the Nike logo “Just Do It.” Womenswear looks included a lilac sweat suit with cropped flood sweatpants, and a sweater styled sans bottoms.
As Murkofsky states, MannhattanKnights is made to “repurpose prep school wardrobes and refit it to suit today’s world.” With the brand’s fall/winter ’18 collection, it seems the inspiration was more prep school gym class rather than uniform.
