Fashion is fashion and it belongs in its own separate category. When it comes to fashion it should be looked at as a privilege. A privilege we should all not take for granted. There are those who are less fortunate to have half of the materialist items those of love to splurge on. When it comes to homelessness, it should not be gawked at or made part of a joke on any social media platform.
When Instagram posts such as this one below is shared, we cannot turn a blind eye to this. @makeup&fun, a beauty and lifestyle page has made its core belief that they will poke fun at the homelessness epidemic in the United States. Although many of us adore fashion, it is meant to stay as a statement.
According to The Guardian, America’s homeless population has risen for the first time since the Great Recession. A new government study found 553,742 people were homeless on a single night this year, as advocates lament a crisis that shows no sign of abating.
Per The Guardian, Ben Carson, secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, which produced the report, said in a statement: “This is not a federal problem – it’s everybody’s problem.”
Let’s all join in asking @makeup&fun to take down this unamusing post and take note that homelessness is no joke.
