Another Royal Wedding at Buckingham Palace

Since being introduced in July 2016 by mutual friends in London, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have had a rather secret relationship over the past year. The pair made their first debut as a couple in September at the Invictus Games and since then, there have been rumors over the past few weeks that there would be an engagement announcement on the horizon. Today, the rumors became true, the pair got engaged quietly earlier this month and will marry in spring of 2018. Harry and Markle will be married in what is described as a spring 2018 wedding and live at Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace, where Harry currently lives.

Today’s announcement was made by Prince Charles, in a statement released from his office at Clarence House.

Markle will be the first American to marry a British royal since the marriage of Wallis Simpson to King Edward VIII, a union so controversial that he was forced to give up the throne in December 1936 to go through with it.

Markle is best known for her role on the TV show “Suits” as well as her philanthropic work. After the announcement of their engagement, Markle announced at the same time that she would be retiring from acting. We wonder how her Suits character will leave the TV show…Hmm, perhaps Rachel will die?

Prince Harry and Markle are part of a new generation of royals who want to project themselves as modern and down-to-earth. Once married, the pair is expected to be known as the “duke and duchess of Sussex”, according to the British news media.
