Could you imagine landing  in Zambia, hoping on a bike and cycling 650KM to Zimbabwe with a time limit set of completing this in only 9 days? I bet most most of you have answered, NO! Well, five people have not only accepted this challenge, but, are doing it with the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) which although small, is a highly effective conservation charity funding key projects across Africa and Asia; the Wild Team will be stopping at DSWF project locations throughout their cycle in 2018.

The project launch was held at Christie’s Auction House in London last week; the collection on show and for sale, titled “The Art of Survival,” was the work of six immensely talented artists with 50% of the proceeds going directly towards helping save wildlife through DSWF.

I was lucky enough to be invited and meet the Wild Team which is made up of five incredible people, Andrew White, a DSWF education advisor and Southern African Expedition Leader, Alex Gregory MBE, double Olympic Gold medal rower, Jacques Rudolph, South African Cricketer, Harry Rowland, Rugby player and his fiancé Laura Wright, RFU official anthem singer, with Ben Toms documenting their journey. It was an evening filled with art, alcohol and most importantly animals. Not only did we get to know the team personally but we also got to learn how demanding this cycle ride will be and understand that our donations, no matter how big or small, will be going to protect endangered species, provide education to help build awareness, work with communities to improve and increase the protection of wildlife and ensure traffickers and poachers are bought to justice! Let’s all raise a glass to that! Here here!

Raising £75,000 is the goal. It is not a huge sum, it is achievable, it will do so much…but the only way to reach this goal is with your help.

If you have been on a safari and have had the feeling of being feet away from rhinos, elephants and lions, then you know how special these animals are…donate.

If you have always dreamed of going on a Safari…donate.

If you adore animals and think poaching is wrong…donate.

If you want to ensure local communities are educated so they understand the importance of wildlife conservation…donate.

If none of the above grabs your attention and you’re a woman, then donate for Laura! She has not only accepted this cycle challenge, but, she is the only woman doing the ride! Donate and do it for the girls!

Donating is easy and there are several ways to do it! Donate by phone, calling +44 (0) 1483 272323 or by sending a cheque to David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation, Saba House, 7 Kings Road, Shalford, Guildford, Surrey GU48JU. You can also donate directly through the website https://davidshepherd.org/help-us/appeal/the-wild-ride by adding your donation to the cart and following the instructions and you can also download a direct debit form and contribute that way.
