Tuğcan Dökmen Spring Summer ‘18

For Spring Summer 2018 Turkish born and London based Womenswear designer Tuğcan Dökmen continues to explore her signature style, the Art Of Layering. The designer offers pieces that work as art as well as luxury products emphasising on the idea of sarcastic elegance. Transparent fabrics such as tulle and organza are the main focus in the collection. The pieces may seem printed, although Dökmen has mastered the technique by layering 8-20 layers, in vibrant colours, offsetting the idea of traditionally printed textiles.

Turkish born and London based Womenswear designer Tuğcan Dökmen continues to explore her signature style, the Art Of Layering. The fabric appears dyed and painted on the body and in some areas you can see the trapped layers escaping from parts of the garments creating a smooth continuity and a free flow around the edges. Georgia O’Keeffe has been the key inspiration for Dökmen.

Not only the colour palette but also the shapes that have been brought to life through a thorough study of O’Keeffee’s brush strokes. This season, Tuğcan Dökmen presents her SS18 collection at Somerset House. A group of models, from different backgrounds and different ages, are flowing in the space, resembling the mythical Forest Nymphs. Through the transparency of the fabrics the feminine creatures represent strong opinions and independence, a beautiful idea that has been the main inspiration for the designer, which allows the pieces to breathe through the models’ bodies.
