Zadig and Voltaire were first established in 1997 by Thierry Gillier, who happened to be the grandson of the famous Andre-Gillier, the co-founder of Lacoste. Today, the French brand is well-known for its edgy, eclectic designs. According to the Zadig and Voltaire website, their collections are supposed to “look like street fashion at first glance.” Employing the use of apparel such as tee shirts, sneakers, casual blazers, and oversized coats, gives the brand a more casual tone. However, even if the designs look like street fashion at first glance, a closer look reveals intricate pieces mixed with bolder clothing. This combination of light and bold calls for makeup that is just as complex, eccentric, and thought-provoking. Here are a few tips as to the makeup and accessories that would complement these looks from Zadig and Voltaire.

This first look from Zadig and Voltaire is fascinating because it looks almost like a hybrid- a mix of a dress and a poncho. What catches the eye the most in this piece is the hints of red underneath the beige color. To emphasize the red, pair this look with a bold red lip and neutral eye. Edward Bess Ultra Slick Lipstick in Midnight Bloom offers the deepest shade of red, perfect for a look like this. The creamy formula will slide easily onto the lips, and add a dose of hydration for the perfect pout. As for the neutral eyes, try the Jane Iredale Eye Shadow Kit in “Perfectly Nude”. The kit includes 6 beautiful eyeshadows that are easy to layer and blend. Buff the mauve shade into the crease of the eye, and then pat on the lightest shade into the middle and inner corners of the eye for a subtle, natural look.

This all black piece seems like others that we’ve seen on the runway before, but with a closer look, you can see that the pinstripes on the blazer and pants are made of glitter. The contrasting black lace blouse creates a complex look altogether. For the makeup, a slick winged liner would complement the black blouse. Use the Anastasia Beverly Hills Darkside Waterproof Gel Liner to build an intense winged eye. This long-lasting liner will not give in to heat or water, so it’s safe to say that it’s very dependable. As for the rest of the makeup, a smooth, dewy face will balance out all of the eccentricities of this look. Try the Milk Makeup Blur Stick to smooth out any lines, and blur pores. This product goes on the skin clear but has a visible, long-lasting effect. Use before applying foundation.

Look #3
This look is perhaps the edgiest and eccentric out of the three. The dark outfit with the bright yellow coat is an interesting look, as the black and yellow are two contrasting colors. The makeup on this look calls for a bold brow. The Brow Envy kit from Too Faced Cosmetics has everything you need to create the Instagram Brow. The kit includes a setting wax, highlighter, two powder shades for the brows, a spooler, angled brush, and tweezers. You don’t need anything else but this kit for your brows. With angled, defined brows, you can now add a nude lip to finish the look. Use Marc Jacobs’ Longwear Lip Duo in J’Adore Cacao. This set comes with a lipstick and a liner for the ultimate nude lip.
