Leanne Marshall’s SS18 show was beyond this upcoming year’s fashion. Her collection used exquisite bold colors, with all forms kept feminine and delicate. Her passion for fashion was transparent in this line, as these pieces reflect a paradise, just like the getaway that fashion gave her. The designer spent two months in search of the right inspiration, but could not get over the continuous green temporary walls all over New York City. She claims that the clear diamond windows of the city could not leave her mind and she finally peeked into one. Peering in, she imagined this said oasis, a get away from the sizzling packed city. Paradise to her meant vibrant color, radiance, and an array irregular silhouettes. Her collection resembled just that.
Not only was the line physically beautiful, Leanne claims her priority this season was her selection of women to rock her pieces. Models of all colors, shapes, and sizes strutted the runway in crop tops, airy chiffon gowns, fun patterns, vivid colors, and feminine-sexy cutouts. With no doubt, this collection put the NYFW’s audience in a sunny, laid-back, heavenly vibe.
From Yuba City, California to New York City, the designer’s journey in the industry is truly unique. The passion started in her early childhood, with her head in sketchbooks and hands fiddling with textiles. At the age of 18, Marshall put her sewing skills to use and won the Levi’s Dockers Scholarship, awarding her tuition to The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in San Francisco. With her determination and gifts, the young college student was able to design her own label full-time shortly after.
In 2008, Marshall was selected as a contestant on Project Runway’s Season 5, where she was crowned the winner with her astounding final collection. After her success, she then moved to New York City where her work continues to make it to New York Fashion Week as well as fashion weeks around the world. Leanne Marshall has most definitely a keen eye for beauty and her pieces continue to flow impeccably in her own ethereal style.
