Cage The Elephant Release New ‘Unpeeled’ Live Album

Arguably the most popular alternative band of the decade, Cage The Elephant have shared a live video for their stripped down version of ‘Rubber Ball’ to tease the release of ‘Unpeeled’ – a 21-track compilation. Shot during a sold-out show in Nashville’s Ryan Auditorium, the performance held special meaning to the band, with frontman Matt Schulz stating, “It was always a dream of ours to perform at this hometown venue, and we felt something spiritual from the moment we stepped on stage.” The track which first appeared on their 2011 sophmore album ‘Thank You, Happy Birthday’ is but one of the album’s songs to surface on ‘Unpeeled’, including ‘Shake Me Down’, ‘Aberdeen’, and two versions of ‘Right Before My Eyes’. “Many times you’re adding sonic layers looking for something to hide behind, and what you don’t realize is that that vulnerability and that nakedness might be the most compelling and interesting thing about the song,” Shculz said, speaking on the inspiration the alt-rockers found for the LP. Particular tracks of interest include Daft Punk’s ‘Instant Crush’ (from the electronic duo’s 2013 Grammy-award winning ‘Random Access Memories’) and Wreckless Eric’s ‘Whole Wide World’ of which the band has previously released a bouncy live video for, taken from the same Nashville performance as ‘Rubber Ball’. With a series of festival dates for the second half of summer lined up, Cage The Elephant can be found headlining Thursday night of Chicago’s Lollapalooza and in October, Foo Fighter’s inaugural Cal Jam. ‘Unpeeled’ is available now for your listening pleasure, via RCA Records.
