Things are just beginning for for the Indie Brit the Sunday Times calls ‘a Bob Dylan for Today’s teens’
Alternative singer/songwriter and socially conscious artist, Declan McKenna is preparing to release his debut album What Do You Think About The Car? this Friday, July 21st via Columbia Records. For now, fans have the chance to visit NPR for a First Listen and stream the album in entirety here. NPR Music has had Declan on their radar for quite some time. Bob Boilen similarly notes how the young musician tends to “write about a much bigger world than you or I might expect from a singer who only recently turned 18.” Thus garnering the critical acclaim of fans young and old within the music industry. Declan is also preparing for an enthralling set of shows in the US over the summer for Lollapalooza and various headlining dates. This tour happens to include one of the last shows at the famed Webster Hall in New York.. “This was the last song I wrote for the record, not to pick a favourite child, but I think this might be. Definitely a step in the direction I’m heading in,” Declan further explains. “I love big powerful choruses that you can just scream and I wanted this to be one of those.”
What Do You Think About The Car? is the follow up to Declan’s EP Liar from last May. The full-length album was also recorded alongside acclaimed producer James Ford of Simian Mobile Disco. Declan, an adept songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, takes pride in writing almost all of the LP’s 11 songs. About Declan: Declan is a native of Hertfordshire UK. A multi-instrumentalist by the time he was a teenager, he eventually began releasing tracks on his bandcamp page. Soon, his song “Brazil” began to attract fans and critics alike in January 2015. He’s performed at Glastonbury, Field Day, Latitude, Outside Lands and SXSW. He has also opened for acts such as The Head and the Heart. Declan most recently accomplished making his US television debut on CONAN as well as on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
