Billboard Awards Preview

It’s awards season again, and what better soundtrack to have than live performances from our favorite artists? The Billboard Music Awards, airing on May 21, showcases the hottest artists of the year.

Hosted by Ludacris and Vanessa Hudgens, the awards ceremony will occur at the T-Mobile Arena in Nevada. Among the performers includes a John Legend and Florida Georgia Line duo, Cher, Miley Cyrus, Celine Dion, Drake, Imagine Dragons, Lorde, Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, Nicki Minaj, Halsey and the Chainsmokers, and Sam Hunt. And those are just the ones that have been announced.

This year, fan favorites The Chainsmokers and Drake are tied for the most nominations at 22 each, with both vying for the Top Artist award. Twenty One Pilots follows with 17 nominations, Rihanna with 14, The Weekend with 13, and Beyonce with 8 nominations.

The most highly-contested categories, though, combine established artists with up-and-coming performers. The Top Artist category, with a whopping 10 nominees, range from Adele to Justin Bieber to Shawn Mendes.

But the most beloved category– Top New Artist– wages a tight competition among the nominees Alessia Cara, Desiigner, Lil Uzi, Lukas Graham, and Zayn.

So grab some popcorn and get ready for the star-studded event.
