Has Kendall Jenner reached her peak? Over the past month, Kendall has received some pretty bad publicity. First, the inappropriate Pepsi commercial featuring Kendall Jenner. During the commercial, she goes to a protest that looks awfully similar to a ‘Black Lives Matter’ protest and hands a Pepsi to a white police officer solving a race-related police brutality. A few weeks later, Kendall and other influencers promoted the Frye Festival that turned out to be a total fiasco. She was paid $250,000 to advertise the festival by posting a photo on Instagram. It turns out she never attended the festival.
Now, Vogue India celebrates a decade of print and features Kendall on the cover even though Indian actor Sushant Singh Rajput was also photographed. As a result, many weren’t too fond of it. Instagram user @nebulous commented, “Vogue India, I have been stewing over this travesty and I think it deserves more. By placing this particular model on the 10th anniversary cover you have betrayed your geographic mandate. I have been a Vogue reader for a very long time. I enjoy Vogue from many countries. As a woman of Indian origin and an expat, Vogue India is a connection to the origins that are a great part of me and a reference for my daughter. Indian beauty comes in all shapes and sizes and from every region in India. Indian photographers have captured Indian beauty for generations. Your 10th anniversary edition should celebrate that.”
Since they didn’t use an Indian model for the cover Indian readers felt insulted. Not to mention, she did not post one photo of her cover shoot for Vogue India. In the past, Kendall has posted her cover issue of Harper’s Bazaar 150th anniversary and a group cover shoot of Vogue’s March issue on her personal Instagram account.
Vogue India released a statement on Friday saying, “India has given the world so many beautiful faces to admire. After all, we are Vogue, an international brand, and we want to give the love back by featuring some of the best international celebrities on our covers. Occasionally!”
