Cara Delevingne: ‘I am sick and tired of society’s beauty standards’
The 24-year-old model turned actress recently shaved off her blonde locks to go bald for her new role, opposite Jaden Smith and Cuba Gooding, Jr. She recently shared a social media post in which she came to the defense of her new look, calling out trolls for dubbing the buzz cut “ugly”.
“Strip away the clothes, wipe off the make up, cut off the hair. Remove all the material possessions. Who are we?” she questioned. “How are we defining beauty? What do we see as beautiful?”
She was initially dyed her hair white as an experiment before the buzz cut as sort of way to get used to the new look for the film.
“I have to shave my head for my next part, so I have to do something different, so I dyed it. Just for fun. Just to change it up,” she said at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.
She brings so many questions to forefront, especially within the industry she has created her stake in. Even someone with her popularity is not immune from hateful comments that come from being in the spotlight.
Basically, what society is saying is, no matter how beautiful you are, who you’ve walked the runway for, or what movie you’ve starred in, if you deviate from their version of what “beautiful” is, you’re considered ugly.
Delevingne, thank you for addressing this issue that has been plaguing many for years. You’re beautiful.
