I’ll start off by asking: what was Marc Jacobs thinking with his latest SS17 show? The show took place during New York Fashion Week and it was quite a sight, not a very good one, I might add. My first thoughts were: what on earth was the inspiration for this line, and why are they wearing dreads? It all just seemed to be very abstract and it looked as though each model just walked out of an Alice In Wonderland themed rave that the Club Kids of the 80’s-90’s would have killed for.
It appeared to look like a very crazed and unappealing runway show and much of these garments are not wearable for the normal consumer. Many of these pieces are for someone who has a lot of creativity and would have to be to be able to really know how to take portions of this collection and make it ‘chic’. In addition to this collection, there included backpacks and handbags that contain images and embellishments of pills, and a tripped out frogs, which begs this question: is this show promoting narcotics in some sort of way?
The bizarre platform heels that probably even the Spice Girls would not have worn, are an interesting design that possibly could work for Elton John, but not an actual fashionista. From the color schemes to the patterns, these are all ‘too’ crazy to actually be wearable.
Lastly, I will say this, wherever and however Marc Jacobs got his inspiration for this line is very ambiguous. It is one of those collections where it’s all over the place and make you have a huge sigh of relief when it’s finally over. While it is a collection that will always be the topic of conversation, but it wouldn’t be for the fact of how amazing it was, instead it would be the exact opposite.
