Tribeca: ‘Jeremiah Tower: The Last Magnificent ‘

Those in true foodie circles have likely come across the name of Jeremiah Tower before, although possibly are not as familiar with him than, say Ramsey or Oliver. That would be because Tower was a “celebrity chef” before there was such a thing. Harvard-educated Jeremiah Tower began his culinary career in 1972 as chef of Chez Panisse in Berkeley, California. Jeremiah then owned other acclaimed restaurants in California and Asia.

With all of the drama, bravado, controversy and intensity we have come to expect from the world of high end cuisine cum reality show,  ‘Jeremiah Tower: The Last Magnificent ‘ was screened at John Zuccotti Theater at BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center on April 16, 2016 in New York City to the delight of celebrity food aficionados and niche drama seekers alike.

“The story of Jeremiah Tower is the stuff of legends — his brash personality and culinary genius make for a captivating look at the man and the story behind the legend,” The Orchard’s Paul Davidson said Thursday in a statement. “Not only are we thrilled to be working with Anthony and Lydia, but we are excited to be partnering with our friends at CNN on this film.”

The Last Magnificent charts the life of Jeremiah Tower, one of the most controversial, outrageous, and influential figures in the history of American gastronomy. Yet his name has largely been obliterated from history. Featuring interviews by Mario Batali, Anthony Bourdain, and Ruth Reichl, this delicious documentary for the culinary set tells the story of the rise and fall of America’s first celebrity chef.

After the movie on Saturday, audiences were treated to  Chef Jeremiah Tower and Executive Producers Anthony Bourdain and Lydia Tenaglia in conversation, moderated by acclaimed host and journalist Charlie Rose.
